Wynwood is the trendiest district in Miami par excellence, and it’s one of those places that we adore. Once an industrial area without another attraction, nowadays it’s a very entertaining neighbourhood. In Wynwood, you can see works by an infinite number of young artists, either in the street where everyone can see them, or in around 70 of the galleries in the district. Plus the recent zika mosquito scare centred here earlier this year is now history.
We recommend you to explore it on the second Saturday of every month when the art galleries open until late. The free Art Walk event attracts residents, tourists and curious people in general. The ambient is indescribable and it’s worth going along to visit. The streets fill up with people, and the restaurants and artists take advantage to show and paint their art there and then. The time to go along and see all this at the Art Walk in Wynwood is the second Saturday of every month. In contrast, many of the galleries in the area close on Sundays, so it’s maybe not the best day to go and visit them.
Wynwood is located between the Design District and Miami Downtown in the north of the city, delimited by NW 36th Street, NW 20th Street, the I-95 and the NE 1st Avenue.
Do you want to know the places where young people visit? In the area, you’ll find Wynwood Walls (2520 NW 2nd Ave), which is one of the most interesting places inMiami. This place has been covered by dozens of murals that show the best in street art, so you can walk round them without spending a cent. This activity is completely free of charge and it’s well worth a look.
As well as this, there are several spacious art galleries and bars offering a very young atmosphere, as well as a number of places where you can buy cheap and tasty food. Winwood Kitchen & Bar: the walls decorated with grafitti draw your attention. On 2550 NW 2nd Ave., the salads and pizzas are popular at Joey’s Italian café. One of the most popular establishments is the Wood Tavern (2531 NW 2nd Ave.), which stands out mostly due to its atmosphere. There you’ll find live music, a terrace in the summer and the best beers in the area. Its strongest competitor is The Bar Next Door, which is a popular informal bar that attracts students and young people. The cheeseburgers are delicious, and you’ll find it on 2519 NW 2nd Ave.
