Although it is not as highly regarded as Berlin, the truth is that the city of Frankfurt has much to offer and is well worth a visit. Given its history, it’s a particularly modern city (after the Second World War it was decided to rebuild it from scratch), although the original German-style architecture still remains in the old town.
To begin with, you will not find a shortage of bars and restaurants in Frankfurt where you can eat to your heart’s content and drink beer to match the locals. In this city there are great options for all budgets, from the most frugal to the most lavish.
Although man –or woman– does not live by food alone, it’s highly recommended that if you’d like to try traditional German cuisine, you head to the Sachsenhausen neighborhood, with its well-known traditional taverns. This is also one of the most striking districts of Frankfurt, an ideal place to find accommodations during your stay: its wooden houses, old cobblestone streets and picturesque taverns make this neighborhood a place you won’t want to miss.
And if after a good German meal and many walks along cobblestone streets you still want to rev up your visit with a good mystery, you can always take part in a fun game that, in addition to helping your digestion, will keep you walking the length and breadth of Frankfurt: to find the Spiderman figures hidden among blocks of office and apartment buildings throughout the city.
The game consists of finding a series of decorative Spiderman figures hidden in the most unsuspected corners of Frankfurt as a tribute to New York City due to the similarities between the skyscrapers of the Big Apple and those of Frankfurt (also called Mainhattan in reference to the Main River that runs through the city). It’s said that there are at least seven Spiderman figures that you can track down like a real modern-day Sherlock Holmes. So, what are you waiting for? The game is afoot! Go find them!
