At around 10km from the centre of Victoria Island in Lagos (Nigeria), Lekki Market, which is also known as ‘Jakende’ among the habitants, is located along the Lekki-Epe motorway. If you like African crafts and you want to take a souvenir of your trip back with you at a good price, don’t hesitate to go to the city and haggle with the sellers.
Many items that are carved out of wood by hand have become a Nigerian speciality. All of these are brought from the most remote places of the country like Cameroon or Terracotta. The large exhibition of paintings will impress you and there are many artists who exhibit their latest works in the bazaar. As well as this, the fruit and vegetables are fresh, which means that you won’t have an excuse for not eating healthy food. We recommend that you hire one of the locals by giving them a small tip, since they will offer their services as a guide so that you don’t get lost, plus you’ll be able to haggle better, considering that your guide will also interpret for you. Now, you just have to choose the gift.
