Cool Doings in São Paulo’s Ibirapuera Park

Sao Paulo is the biggest city in America and there is always something to do there. This is probably why young people flock here.

Amongst the open air green areas within such a hectic city, Parque do Ibirapuera (or Ibirapuera Park) is the largest and most well-known. Special because, amongst other things, it is considered by locals to be the green lung of the city.

This park, which you can access from Avenida Paulista, is located on Avenue Pedro Alvares Cabral and is very much the favourite for young people who visit the city, especially at the weekends. With its many corners and paths, you can do pretty much anything – from yoga to cycling, going for a stroll with the dog or skateboarding. In Parque do Ibirapuera you can practice sports while getting in touch with nature or simply dream away the stress of city life and studies.

Incidentally, Parque do Ibirapuera is home to the Palácio das Indústrias, known today as Pabellón Cicillo Matarazzo, currently the headquarters for Bienal de Sao Paulo and the city’s Contemporary Art Museum. When you enter into the museum, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the park, so make sure not to forget your camera. Ibirapuera also has a planetarium, which offers fun and free activities, as well as astronomy courses.

Parque do Ibirapuera is also a meeting place for artistic activities, including concerts and live music. Sometimes batucada groups play, which is very entertaining. Typically, people buy coconut water to drink while enjoying the atmosphere or read a good book.
